A Project Organized by an international team of blacksmiths

Forging for Peace

For centuries, blacksmiths have made nails. They’ve made everyday tools. And they’ve made weapons of war. Now blacksmiths across the globe are making special large “Peace Nails” with a purpose: helping people in need. Your gift connects you to this purpose.

Why Nails?

Why Nails?

The nail is an international symbol of connection. Blacksmiths have used them as a signature for centuries, driving them into special nail trees to say “I was here”. These special large nails are made to advocate for charities and non-profit organizations that help people in need or those damaged by war.

How it Started

On the 8th of May, 2015 when German blacksmith Alfred Bullerman heard about the bombing and complete destruction of his Ukranian friend’s workshop in Donezk, he knew he had to take action. With a group of his colleagues, Bullermann established the “Forging for Peace” project and began forging these extra large nails – a symbol of connection – marked with a Dove, the international symbol of peace.

Working Together for Peace in the World
Alfred Bullerman invited Scott Lankton to bring "Forging for Peace" project to the United States and he became "Peacesmith" #26. Lankton started making the first Peace Nails in the United States up in Michigan. He got hooked and started growing the movement. Scotty Utz is "Peacesmith #31" and is now forging Peace Nails in North Carolina and across the South.

War is not the answer

Everyone wants to live in peace. War is misery. All those caught up in war, regardless of who is fighting against whom, suffer immensely. Everyone wants to raise their kids without fearing for their safety. We long for harmony in our lives. We are working for a future where we forge the weapons of war into farming tools and study war no more.
